Hear from Our Families

Jess

The BVCS BVCOS program offers support and curriculum to parents wishing to homeschool their children. There are several wonderful ladies who keep this ship sailing smoothly. First, there is Monique. Monique is currently the principal for BVCOS. She doesn’t have a whole lot to do with us homeschoolers on a regular basis, but any interactions we do have with her are lovely. She is a friendly and Christ centred lady who has an infectious smile. Next, there is Helga. We are so thankful for Helga’s knowledge and support with the curriculum. She has first-hand knowledge about homeschooling as she homeschooled her own 5 children for many years. She is very helpful when picking out the curriculum that we will use for the year. She also understands the struggles that parents can face when homeschooling their children day in and day out and is always available to give advice or a listening ear. Our ‘teacher’, Natasha, is a wonderful God-loving woman who is so encouraging to our children. She keeps in touch with us through weekly emails asking us about what we are learning in one or two subjects, and she visits or calls monthly. She’s responsible for checking all the boxes that are required by the government. I am thankful that she is available to edit writing assignments as that is a task that I don’t feel confident doing. This is currently our 5th year homeschooling through the BVCS BVCOS. We’ve made many good memories through the years joining the bricks and mortar for basketball and ski days. We’ve always been invited to activities and there have even been some fun BVCOS gym and potluck dinner nights through the years. If you are looking for support, encouragement, and a Christian education for your children we highly recommend this program.

We have been homeschooling through BVCOS since 2012. Through the many curveballs of family life, the school has been incredibly supportive. They have offered timely guidance, resources, and encouragement all along this journey. I had no idea how to “homeschool” our children, but partnering with this school made it feel possible right from the get-go and gave me the courage to pursue this rewarding route of education for our family.

Karl and Katye

We live on our off-grid homestead and we enjoy the beauty of the Bulkley Valley as well as the wonderful friends that make this such a special community.  We chose BVCOS as it allows us a less hectic lifestyle and we feel that it gives our kids a diverse educational experience.

As well as the fundamental school subjects, our family also gets to engage in hands on learning of life skills such as raising & butchering animals, gardening, canning, cooking, construction and building which we feel is so valuable for our kids. We enjoy being outside and once our bookwork is done for the day. We will do our own version of PE which includes: snowshoeing, cross country skiing, swimming, hiking, fishing & hunting. Our kids love that spelling can be done while climbing trees and math can be done on the trampoline! It is so neat to watch as their individual interests emerge and grow and homeschooling allows us the time and opportunity to foster these interests.

Although it is hard work schooling 3 diverse children in 3 different grades, the BVCOS program fits our family so very well. BVCOS staff are amazingly supportive of our family and our unique needs. Our kids look forward to their monthly visits from their teacher, and after 4 years, she knows our family very well! We really value our relationships with BVCOS staff and we know that they work very hard behind the scenes to make this bumpy journey be as smooth as possible for our family.

We feel so blessed that we are given this gift of time with our young children – to shepherd them and provide experiences that will not only enrich their life but also aid in their own Christian walk.
